The Zoo.

Even though we were supposed to go about a month ago, we finally made it to the zoo yesterday. It was a long day, as the zoo is huge and requires a lot of walking. As you can imagine I used my camera a lot, so be prepared for a very photo-heavy post! It was wonderful weather and husband and I caught the ferry out to the zoo from the city. Here are some snaps I took of some Sydney landmarks that we went past in the ferry:

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Sydney Opera House
And of course, I took a lot of photos of the awesome animals. Here are some of our favourites...

Sumatran Tiger. Husband took this cool photo.
The elephants were adorable! So clever. I could have watched them for hours.
Fun trivia fact: giraffes (and actually all mammals) have the same number of neck vertebrae (seven).
This lion was awesome. His eyes were so amazing (very hard to capture on photo).
The meerkats were so tiny and cute!
Pygmy hippo (and random duck). Husband said we can get one - where do you shop for Pygmy hippos!?
I could watch the gorillas forever. They were by far my favourite. The mother and baby interacting was so human-like and fascinating. The biggest one (in the middle) was incredibly huge and powerful. I now no longer think that lady that went to live with the gorillas was a crazy person.
One thing that they mentioned all over the zoo was how rare many of these species now are in the wild, which is very sad. Conservation efforts are extremely important, and while I'm generally a bit iffy about places that show animals for entertainment, the zoo does a lot of good work to try and increase animal numbers and look after them.

Well I did take many more photos than this, but I think I've bombarded you enough. Hope you enjoyed looking at them anyway!

P.S. If you do want to see more photos though, I plan to add some on my blog's facebook page. Check it out! :)
P.P.S. I've been checking out the zoo's conservation society. If you're interested in helping save animals from extinction you can donate here

  1. I LOVE the photo of the tiger! I always find the big cats are the hardest to get photos of.

  3. A lion's eyes are the most fascinating thing I have ever had the pleasure to see. They are just amazing creatures (yes I am bias, whatever). The only thing more amazing than that though, a white lion's eyes. They literally left me dumb-struck and almost eaten :D haha.

  4. @Anide When we were looking at the lions and tigers yesterday I was telling Husband about your stay in Africa and how you could volunteer to help look after them. I think I've nearly convinced him we can go some day! :D

  9. LOVE the Lion. He almost looks placid, but I'd be happy to keep my distance! I haven't been to the zoo yet myself - I always feel horrible half the time as I don't like the concept of these glorious creatures being caged, but then think many don't survive in their natural habitat due to poachers (scum), deforestation and other human actions!

Looks like I'll be off to the zoo next year!
