Strange things are afoot...

Just thought I'd share three odd/cool things I came across the other day.

The first: love a bit of alien conspiracy!

"there will be space ships by then"
The second: I'd just gotten off the bus at uni to see this - an elderly conga line! So cute, and yet entirely random.

sorry for crappy photo quality - had to covertly snap on my iphone!
The third: thanks to @cestaz for pointing this article out to me on twitter... apparently some zombies got injured on the set of a movie. Paramedics arriving at first thought some terrible catastrophe occurred and couldn't immediately tell all the blood was fake! It's funny to me especially, because the other night when I was dressed as a zombie I said to husband: "today would be a really bad day for a car accident - paramedics would have no idea which were my real injuries!"

That is all.

Should I or shouldn't I?

So in the time that husband and I have been living in this apartment complex (a bit over six months), the building hallway has had a large window without a screen. It just so happens that directly on the outside of the window, is a huge wasp nest. I have on a few occasions seen wasps come inside and fly around the hallway. On the weekend I killed one, and now I'm pretty sure they hate me. I always close the window, and yet the next time I'm out in the hallway, it's open again. Now I'd kind of understand if this was the only window, but there's another one right near it (with a screen intact) that is always open, which doesn't allow wasps in. As there are many people in the building and I'm not sure who the window-opener is (I'm assuming that although clever, the wasps are unable to open the window themselves), I can only see one option: the passive aggressive note.

I have constructed the following sign to potentially put up...

Yes, I did make this myself. I'm quite proud of it.

So the question is - should I, or shouldn't I put the sign up?

Extra information:
  • I don't really know any of the surrounding neighbours well - we are only on a saying 'hello' in passing basis (sometimes).
  • Husband really doesn't seem to be concerned about a potential wasp invasion, so he's no help.
  • I'm not entirely sure if these are the type of wasps that sting people, so I may look silly putting this up if they're not a danger to anybody.
  • I'm not sure how long this no-screen business has been going on. Perhaps all the other building occupants have no problem with this, and it's been this way for years. If this is the case, a sign suddenly showing up now may signal us as the culprits (being the most recent to move in).
  • I think I'm allergic to wasps (not deathly so - I don't think, but once I stood on one accidently and my foot puffed up so much I couldn't wear shoes); or at the very least, I'm a hypochondriac. To that end - don't google wasp sting pictures. It's not pretty.

What do you think...?

The End is Nigh - Allegedly.

So according to these goobers:

SMH news article
The world is ending: TOMORROW! How do they know this? A series of numerological calculations of the bible of course. I find this interesting since I'm pretty sure the bible is kinda against this sort of practice!

Anyway, the reason I'm so amused by this is because when I was 8 years old, I remember a similar group of weirdos were proclaiming the world was ending on the weekend. I was too young to realise how misguided these people were, and spent the whole weekend terrified! I honestly did not sleep the whole time and was a wreck. Obviously, it worked out OK with the world not ending and all.

Just in case on the minuscule chance these people are right, I don't want to leave you in the lurch. After all, I do try to make this a helpful blog, what with my 'how to look like a banana' posts and such. Luckily you can be prepared for this: the CDC has kindly made a guide for Zombie Apocalypse Emergencies.

Thanks to EK for pointing this website out for me!

Make sure you check it out, because well you never know...

*Update: Well it's Sunday here and the world hasn't ended - big surprise.
**2nd Update: It turns out that the 'similar weirdos' from when I was around 8 (which was 1993/4) was actually THE SAME guy. If he was wrong last time why did people believe him again!?! I now would like to sue this dude (he's got enough money) for contributing to quite the anxiety-filled childhood memory. Pfft.

The Curse.

I have worked at many places in the last 9-10 years, and I was thinking of talking on here about some of my more memorable jobs. Then I remembered for a while I had what I would call a curse relating to work. Or more specifically a particular person, who was an omen of doom for that job (i.e., I'd be soon getting fired after interacting with him). I will call this person Ivan*...

To V or not to V (or redbull).

[via]
So if you have looked over at my 'mini-review' section of likes and boycotts, you'll see that I'm quite the fan of sugarfree V - a caffeinated energy drink. For a while I was somewhat proud of the fact that I was drinking more than the recommended daily intake. I know what you're thinking and you're correct - I am quite the rebel. However recently I've been trying to consider my health a bit more as I am hurtling towards being elderly (I am 26, sigh). I realised consuming this much caffeine/guarana/fake-sugar daily probably isn't the best. However, I reasoned that I am doing a PhD and I can't just sleep all the time and then be incoherent and unable to concentrate the rest of the time, so I should just keep drinking it for now.

Anyway, out of busyness today, and the fact that uni has stopped stocking it for some reason (redbull conspiracy?!?), I didn't actually drink any V today. And surprisingly... I survived. I was awake (although cranky), and seemed to be able to function (mostly). I'll admit I had a can of pepsi max but as if that does anything. What's the point of this story you ask? Well aren't you rude. Anyway, I'm considering trying to give it up for good. Which would be quite difficult I think, but would be better in the long run and save a fair bit of money.

Or maybe I'll just start having red bull.

P.S. YES I have considered the fact that the crazed ramblings of this post may be due to the effects of lack of caffeine.
